Girl with a Pearl Earring

By Tracy Chevalier

Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer represents one of the great enigmas of 17th-century art. His portrait of the anonymous Girl with a Pearl Earring has exerted a particular fascination for centuries.

Story is narrated through Griet who is hired as a servant in Vermeer’s prosperous Delft household during the 1660s. First, the 16-year-old narrator becomes increasingly intimate with her master. Then Vermeer employs her as his assistant–and ultimately has Griet sit for him as a model. Story does contain a final delicious twist.

And I was completely hooked on the development of the story and was not too bored by the details in the story. I believe will be a good read.

My book is not the special edition one with illustrations of other art pieces mentioned in the story. Book is available for loan. Do let me know if interested.
